Travnik Short-beaked Pigeon History Besides its rich history Travnik has a long tradition in pigeon keeping. The old part of the town is made up of many streets and alleys in which almost every other household kept pigeons. So it is no surprise that right here originates a very beautiful pigeon breed, the Travnik Short-Beaked Pigeon. The history of this pigeon starts in 1950. The Travnik Short-Beaked Pigeon was developed around 1950, by crossing several short beaked pigeon breeds: Prague, Vienna and Berlin Short-Beaked Pigeons. Mass breeding of this breed started in 1965, and with the establishment of the Travnik pigeon club in 1982 the first standard was formed. It took a long number of years of deliberate work to create the Travnik Short-Beaked Pigeon of today, after which the breed was officially recognized on February 10, 1992 in Doboj.
